William Ma, a former ECBEA alumni and young philanthropist lost his life in a fatal car accident in late 2013. Born on September 30, 1993, William was attending the University of Alberta at the time of his passing and had made a big impression in his community due to his high academic standing and volunteering efforts. William was well-loved amongst his family and friends and sought out opportunities to give back whenever possible - volunteering at the Humane Society of Edmonton, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, and Habitat for Humanity.
This scholarship is awarded to Grade 12 students of the Chinese Bilingual Program who have demonstrated a positive outlook in life and has been recognized for their contributions to the community. Through the process of setting up this scholarship, his parents Chung Wai Ma and Po King Chow, and his sister Cindy Ma, have found comfort in continuing his legacy and hope it will inspire others to pursue a purposeful life filled with passion similar to that of William’s.
